Starke County charitable organizations received much needed dollars through the Starke United Fund. Thirteen organizations were selected to share the $15,000 available in this yearly grant cycle.

Organizations who received grant dollars were: Bella Vita, $500; Center for Workforce Innovations, Inc., $1,080; Community Services of Starke County, $3,070; The Crossing Education Center, $500; Junior Achievement of Starke County, $1,000; Kid's Closet Ministry, NJUMC, $2,000; Knox Elementary School Swing Project, $1,000; Psi Iota Xi, $1,000; Salvation Army, $500; Starke County A.B.A.T.E., $2,000; The Starke County Youth Club, $2,000; and WIC, $350.

Knox Community Schools also received $5,000 for “Kindergarten Countdown”, a cooperative program through IU Health Starke County, Indiana Associations of United Ways, Knox Community Schools and the Starke County Community Foundation. This initiative provides vital preschool instruction to qualifying children who will start kindergarten this fall.

"The Starke United Fund provides a good part of the local funding dollars that support charitable organizations in our community," said Sandy Kersting-Rudd, Chair of the Starke United Fund Grant Committee. "Each year the committee reviews applications that touch many lives in Starke County."

Dollars for these grants are raised by people who make an undesignated donation to the Starke United Fund through payroll deductions, direct giving, or through fundraising events sponsored by the Starke United Fund Committee. One such event is a yearly golf outing, which is held at the Hamlet Golf Course.

Starke United Fund grants are made possible through a partnership with Starke United and the Starke County Community Foundation, a relationship that began in 2012. This partnership provides an efficient way for Starke United to assist charitable agencies, and allows donors who support Starke United to continue making a positive impact. The Starke United Fund Grant Committee is made up of the former Starke United board members.
