Dancers will be taking the floor
for the third annual "Dancing with the Stars" competition to raise
money for the Miami County Community Foundation on April 19 at 7
p.m. at Lincoln School Apartments. Those attending should be prepared
to be dazzled and to vote for their favorite performers with dollars.
The performance to bring in the most donations will receive the
"People's Choice" trophy. This year's competition will also feature
a panel of judges who will award prizes for Best Overall Performance,
Best Technical Performance and Most Creative Performance.
Admission is $20 a person. There will be appetizers and a cash
bar by The Siding, plus open dancing with DJ Tim Davies after the
lively dance competition. Mark your calendars and come support your
community by having a lot of fun!
We still have $3,000 in matching funds available for the Starke
County 4-H fund during 2008! Your contribution to the fund
could help turn $3,000 into $6,000 for the 4-H program!
We also have $1,000 in matching funds available for the Todd Jacob
Stephenson fund during 2008! Your contribution to Todd's fund could
help turn $1,000 into $2,000 for the benefit of children's programs
and activities in Starke County!

Three comedians from Chicago are coming to entertain Miami
County and to raise money for the BOOKS (Books Offer Our Kids Success)
Program! Grownups are sure to enjoy the humor of nationally renowned
comedian Mike Toomey as well as that of talents Brian Stephenson
and Chuck Ray of Rolling Mojo's Comedy Revue.
The show starts at 8 p.m. in the Peru High School auditorium. Tickets
are $10, and can be purchased in advance at Beef 'O' Brady's or the
Community Foundation office at 13 E. Main Street. Show goers can enjoy a 10%
discount on their meal at Beef 'O' Brady's on the
night of the show. (Alcoholic beverage purchases are excluded.)
Thanks to the sponsorship of Beef 'O' Brady's, and the continued
support of the Community Foundation, 100% of the proceeds of this event will
go to the BOOKS Program. BOOKS buys a new book for every Miami County kindergartener
attending Maconaquah, North Miami, Peru, and St. Charles schools, each month
they are in school. The goal is to stimulate a love a literature and enthusiasm
for learning amongst our community's families.
May 1, 2008, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Boomerang Sisterhood invites the women of
Miami County to attend "Ladies' Night
Out." It will be an evening of fun and shopping! Come see displays
of businesses run by, and that benefit, our community's women! The
open house will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Community Building at
the 4-H Fairgrounds. Admission to visitors is free.
It's a great opportunity to visit with friends and enjoy time
spent with the women who make things happen for our community! Paid
members of the Boomerang Sisterhood will also vote for the projects
they wish to fund through their first grant cycle. So, come enjoy
the fun and learn more about the Boomerang Sisterhood, a grant-making
project facilitated by the Miami County Community Foundation!
June 14, 2008, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Artists from our community will have their work featured
in the first-ever Miami County Arts Council Show. The show will
be held in conjunction with the Cole Porter Festival, at the Peru
High School Art Gallery, on Saturday June 14. It will be open to
the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
The Arts Council is an initiative started by the Miami County Community
Foundation, which functions as a convener, bringing people and ideas
together to find positive outcomes for Miami County. The mission
of the Arts Council is to showcase the wealth of artistic talent
in Miami County and thereby elevate our community's
culture.
