Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Reporting

As a Lilly Endowment Community Scholar (LECS), it is important that we receive documentation so we can make sure your tuition is paid in a timely manner, that you receive your book stipend check without delay and that we always are current on your contact information.

Following are links to important reports that you must complete and return to our office as well as useful information about aspects of your scholarship. If you don't see what you need, please feel free to contact Corinne and she will provide you with what you need.

Reports and Forms:

Off-Campus/Study Abroad Program Eligibility Review:All scholars wanting to study off campus are required to submit the folloiwng form to Independent Colleges of Indiana prior to signing any contracts or paying required deposits for participation in an off-campus opportunity. If the program is eligible, your Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship will cover tuition and academic fees, up to the cost of the semester tuition at your Indiana college. Travel, food, lodging, and other costs are not covered by this scholarship program. To determine whether an off-campus or study abroad program will be eligible for tuition scholarship payment, please complete the form below:

Intructions:

Tuition Payments: The Lilly ndowment Community Scholarship Program will pay full tuition and all fees required of every student in your college or university or of every student in your major at that institution. These payments will cover eight academic semesters…but ONLY after you submit your tuition bill.

Students MUST submit their tuition bill to the Northern Indiana Community Foundation (NICF).

  • promptly after receiving it.
  • EVERY SEMESTER!
  • no matter what amount is or is not shown as being owed! Many bills indicate a “$0” balance is owed, because the college’s computer recognizes that you are a Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. That does not mean that your tuition has been paid. It will NOT BE PAID until Independent Colleges of Indiana receives your invoice from the Northern Indiana Community Foundation.

If you do not submit your tuition invoice promptly:

  • Your payment will be late….or missing.
  • Late charges will be assessed to YOU!
  • You may be dropped from registration in classes you need.
  • You may be dropped from the college or university.
  • You will be noncompliant to the terms of the scholarship contract.

Book Stipend Payments:The NICF will distribute an $800 stipend check for required books and required equipment to each Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. The check will be distributed in the early Fall to Scholars who have submitted all required reports by their due dates. The $800 book stipend

  • is to be used for the current academic year.
  • receipts MUST be submitted to the Northern Indiana Community, SO SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS.
  • may be used to purchase textbooks and materials required for a specific class.
  • may not be used for computers, Internet fees, parking, furniture, or sports tickets.
  • may not be carried over from one academic year to the next.
  • unspent funds (if more than $25.00) MUST be returned to the Northern Indiana Community Foundation.
  • the return check should be made out to “Independent Colleges of Indiana.”
  • Everyday school supplies such as computer paper, notebooks, pens, pencils, and computer discs are not eligible expenses for the book stipend, unless the total amount to be returned to ICI is a sum less than $25.00, in which case, the leftover funds may be used to fund general school supplies. The Scholar may keep refunds on books sold back to the bookstore at the end of the semester. Used books may be purchased from friends—submit a statement of the cost of the book(s) purchased from individuals and the course for which it was purchased.
